History

The Otter Realm, CSUMB’s student newspaper since 1995, covered student activities, university events, and issues relating to the campus community. Produced by the School of Humanities & Communication (HCOM), the Otter Realm began as a once-a-month publication but has been published bi-monthly since March 1997.

As of the Fall 2017 semester, the Otter Realm transitioned from Academic Affairs to Student Activities. This change allowed students to start fresh and rebuild the newspaper from the ground up, introducing modern designs, integration with social media and online tools, and a variety of other changes. The Lutrinae is a fun, unique, and modern way to show our Otter Pride and effectively communicate with the entire campus community.
