What do you think of the Facebook whistleblower situation?

Juan Flores

Second-year Business Administration

“I know it’s big news, but I don’t know much about it because I don’t use Facebook. Ethically speaking though, if it was as bad as the news says it is, that’s what should’ve been done.”

Austin Folster

Third-year Computer Science

“What I find the most interesting is that Facebook basically did research on themselves about it. So the documents that were leaked, showed that Facebook and Instagram reviewed their users’s mental health, specifically children and teens, and it showed a correlation between Facebook and Instagram use and mental health decline. And so, although I dislike censorship with a passion, when it comes to a person’s mental health, it makes sense to keep it reserved for individuals that are of age and don’t target the younger audiences with very neuroplastic minds that don’t have the emotional maturity to handle it.”

Mary Alexander

Third-year Business Marketing

“I think that it’s a good thing that they called out Facebook. I think Facebook should do their best to protect its users, but then, at the same time, parents should be responsible for their children’s online use as well.”
