Crab Game: Squid Game’s comedy counterpart

“Crab Game” is a hilarious video game adaptation of the hit Netflix show Squid Game. “Crab Game” is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux computers and is free to play. However, there are cosmetic microtransactions available for purchase.

“Crab Game” is a first-person multiplayer battle royale, where you compete for the “ultimate cash price in different minigames based on children’s games, until only one player is left to claim it all,” according to the Steam page for the game.

After being released on Oct. 29, 2021, “Crab Game” blew up on the internet. Many YouTubers, Twitch streamers, and other online content creators were talking about and playing the game. While the initial hype surrounding Squid Game and its video game counterpart has calmed down a bit, “Crab Game” still has an active player base.

“Crab Game” is significantly more lighthearted than the show and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Even the game’s description is joking around, with one of the key features including “milk.”

The game has pretty simplistic graphics and certainly isn’t the most visually appealing, but the rudimentary graphics work with the goofy nature of the game. It is a hilarious time to play with friends.

Similar to the show, “Crab Game” does have guns, melee weapons, blood, and gore, but it is pretty cartoony. If fans found scenes of Squid Game hard to sit through, that likely won’t be the same case in “Crab Game.”

“Crab Game” does have some minigames that appear to be inspired by Squid Game, such as a couple versions of red light, green light, and glass stepping stones, but it also introduces a variety of new minigames, such as fighting a giant crab named Tantan, snowball fights, and more.

“Crab Game” initially only supported up to 35 players in a lobby, but you can now face off against up to 50 total players.

For a free game, “Crab Game” doesn’t appear to have too many bugs or game-breaking glitches, and it runs pretty smoothly.

There isn’t much to complain about when it comes to “Crab Game,” it is a hilariously chaotic time and is definitely worth checking out.
