CSUMB official Glen Nelson set to retire

Glen Nelson, the vice president for Administration and Finance at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), will be retiring on June 30 according to an email from school President Vanya Quiñones.

“I thank Glen for his dedication to our campus and our students, and wish him the best in his next stage,” Quiñones wrote.

Nelson has been with CSUMB since 2021 and has overseen various aspects of the university’s business such as facilities, human resources and the University Police Department. His work at the University Corporation kept him involved in many matters relating to East Campus housing, such as billing and waitlist management.

In September, Nelson came under fire for a comment that seemed to be a joke about scaring out government employees who are tenants in East Campus. Nelson later apologized for the comment.

“I apologize for the language I used at a University Corporation Board meeting on Sept. 21 during an update on corporation operations that mentioned East Campus housing and a contract with the Department of Defense. CSUMB leaders and I are committed to supporting veteran students and veterans in this region,” wrote Nelson.

Nelson also was one of the leaders charged with letting students know about the financial challenges the university faces and how that would affect their lives.

Nelson will assist in finding the next vice president of administration and finance, with a nationwide search conducted through a recruiting firm. CSUMB hopes to have filled this position by the beginning of the next fiscal year.
