The do’s and don’ts of sharing a room

Do

  • Tell your roommates before you shower
  • Tell your roommates before bringing someone over
  • Clean up after yourself in shared spaces
  • Take phone calls outside
  • Talk out issues
  • Talk to your RA to help resolve issues if you can’t do it yourself
  • Support and respect your roommates
  • Keep your things in your area
  • Take your things out of communal spaces
  • Split costs evenly of shared items (toilet paper, mini fridge, etc.)
  • Distribute cleaning evenly
  • Be cautious of perfumes or air fresheners you use

Don’t

  • Hog the fridge or other common spaces
  • Wake up your roommates early in the morning
  • Take loud phone calls in the room
  • Blast your music unless everyone is okay with it
  • Keep your roommates up late if they need to sleep
  • Put your things in your roommates’ spaces
  • Be a stickler about buying things
  • Make one roommate do all of the cleaning
  • Be loud when others are sleeping
