New Wave route during peak hours. Additional Wave route provides transportation from Lot 59 to the Library.

A new Wave route, “Rapid Interval Divarty Express” has been created to accommodate students who park further away from their classes. As many centrally located parking lots such as Lot 1 and 28 have been transitioned to staff only, students often have to park in Lot 59.

This route runs from Lot 59 to the library, every seven minutes from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. every Monday-Friday. The addition was first announced on the University Police Department’s Instagram page on Oct 13.

The new route is testing student interest in Main Campus shuttle routes. Transportation Program Coordinator Raju Ceerla says, “We did have a Main Campus route in the past, which did not perform for what it was intended. Now that more students are parking at Lot 59, we want to make sure students have an option.”

Interim Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Reuban Rodriguez explains that this new route is currently in its pilot and it will continue to evaluate the usage and popularity of the line. “We encourage students, staff and faculty to use it if they want to keep it for the future,” said Dr. Rodriguez.

Dr. Rodriguez campaigned for this new route in order to provide more accessibility for students. “Early in the semester, we heard from some students, including Associated Students, that the time to walk from Lot 59 to the center of campus was causing issues with getting to classes, work or appointments on time,” said Dr. Rodriguez.

In addition to the shuttle, 112 new parking stalls will be installed in Lot 71 in November.
