After earning an associate degree in fashion, friends and family discouraged Logan Beeman from starting his own clothing line.
Having already mastered both the drums and guitar, before taking up an interest in fashion, Mason, who also goes by the artist name Logan Mason, ultimately decided to pursue a degree at Cal State Monterey Bay in psychology. However, now in his final year Mason feels called back to the world of fashion and has decided to start his own independent fashion label entitled, Unknown OutCasts.
“The name was derived from, well, everything about me has always been different. I’ve always felt like an outcast, a misfit. So when I made this clothing line, that’s who I had in mind it being for. I wanted the vision to be very clear, everything about it is hand-detailed with distresses, darker silhouettes, a little more on the alternative side, so with all that in mind I felt like the name just really fit,.” shares Mason.
“I am aiming for if ‘70’s and ‘80’s rock stars were just a little more emo,.” Mason teased. Having been a KISS fan since five, loving the ‘70’s and ‘80’s rock scene and having jobs working for companies like Saint Laurent and John Varvatos, Mason decided it was time to put his fashion knowledge to use and create his very own clothing line.
Mason shared that he takes inspiration from companies like “Other” that are based in the United Kingdom. “Brands like the Other have a very similar aesthetic to what I am trying to capture, very rock‘n’roll.”
Mason plans to stay local to Monterey, sourcing all materials from California and working with local screen printers to manufacture his designs. As for the art, he is the brain behind the designs too, often working alongside local artists to bring his vision to life. The final step in the process is to distress the items, which Mason does himself, ensuring all the pieces are unique in their distressing and have that vintage vibe.
Mason says he wants to keep the clothes manageable and attainable. He’s been working hard to find a good balance between affordabilityle and quality.

“I really like the high quality but I am basing my brand off of a more punk rock aesthetic. So I am trying to keep the brand high quality but also not make a single pair of pants for like a thousand bucks,” Mason said, emphasizing his goal is to be the first to have this sort of balanced aesthetic meets obtainable brand in the area.
“I definitely am trying to get a store front, that’s one of my biggest goals, because everything about this clothing line is evolving. I am currently working with a manufacturer to make some jeans. I really want the store front because it’s all based on a vibe, you know? I don’t just want to sell T-shirts, clothes and jeans, I want it to be photography and music. I want a culture to be established around it, you know if you listen to Led Zeppelin you don’t just hear a good song, but you think of the bellbottoms, the hair, the ‘70s.”
He wants the store to be a hang out spot for others that identify with the outcast energy. A local one-of-a-kind spot that curates a clientele that yearns for another time, and has a passion for good music and rock’n’roll aesthetics. “I want a store front in Monterey, paint it black, lots of leopard print,” says Mason.
As of now, the line has launched a few different T-shirt designs, but in the works are hoodies, zip-up sweaters, denim, and various other forms of outerwear.
