A Fetch-tastic Night

With the weather cooling down and mid-terms in the coming weeks, Associated Students hosted the Fetch Fest – an event to commemorate the 2000s classic  “Mean Girls” with a screening of the movie, as well as accompanying games and prize giveaways, giving students a place to unwind with friends.

“I love ‘Mean Girls,’ love the movie and the musical, this is going to give me nostalgia of high school because we did ‘Mean Girls’ in my high school production,” said Sophia Brunt, a first-year agriculture and soil science major while she was waiting for the movie to start.

Brunt was sitting in the front row of the designated 10 rows, each holding 20 seats in the middle of the Otter Student Union Ballroom. While she was waiting, others were gradually making their way to seats or grabbing snacks from the refreshment table along the back wall.

Around 8 p.m. an Associated Students member went to the main screen that would be projecting the screen, and explained how Bingo was going to proceed. Through a QR code, students were able to get a digital Bingo card that had scenes or quotes from “Mean Girls.” When those scenes appeared, students could mark them off and win prizes if they achieved a bingo.

“I came cause I thought it would be fun, I did not expect to win anything but I am really excited I did,” said Sophia Hernandez, a second-year humanities and communications major. Hernandez was the winner of a “That’s So Fetch” tote bag, one of the many prizes available to win. “The bingo was the movie, so it was easy to have fun and play along,” Hernandez said.

Nearly half of those present participated in the game, there were around 40 total winners that got prizes.
