This Valentine’s Day is predicted to be a rainy one, barring the usual activities for many in Monterey County: a trip to the beach and a stroll down Cannery Row. For those looking to stay dry, yet celebrate this V-Day, look no further. Hang up your umbrella, skip the damp drive downtown and consult this list of four at-home activities to celebrate the love in your life this Friday.
DIY charcuterie board
What better way to enjoy your favorite snacks than arranging them into an aesthetically pleasing spread worthy of an Instagram story post? Grab your cutest dishware, cut up some fruit and veggies, pair with sweet treats or sour pickles and adorn your plate to your heart’s content. Bonus points if you get some V-Day-themed treats from Trader Joe’s or microwavable fondue for dipping.
Build a pillow fort
Arguably one of the most iconic rainy-day activities. Garner all the pillows, blankets and Squishmallows you can find – as well as chairs for structure – and build a cozy space to watch movies, craft or do whatever it is you love! Check out Takes Two to Review’s Valentine’s Day film guide for festive movie recommendations and a tutorial for building the perfect fort.
Cozy reading date
For my BookTok devotees out there, this one’s for you. The sound of rain pattering against a window sill is the perfect reading ambiance, so (as Robin Williams said in Dead Poets Society) “Carpe diem, seize the day!” Gather the special people – or person – in your life, sip on a hot drink and dive back into those books you’ve been meaning to read. Romance novels are not required, but highly encouraged.
Make a memory board
Celebrate who or what you love using what you have! The memory board takes after the junk journal or vision board aesthetic and is made to display a collection of memorabilia in a creative fashion. Glue or tape old concert tickets, receipts, stickers or anything else with a special memory attached to it to a piece of construction paper and voilà! A decoration and time capsule in one.
