Coffee, cramming and finding creative ways to stay calm this finals season

’Tis the season for stress as Cal State Monterey Bay students begin cramming information for finals. Below we have constructed a little list of places to get your study on in these last few weeks. All near campus, full of caffeinated options, and even some serene scenery.

Counterpoint Coffee

This shop takes our number one spot, being the closest to campus. The shop is seven minutes away by car or a short twenty-five-minute ride via local transit. This spot has plenty of room inside, with many wall plug-ins for those extra-long study sessions. Students have raved about this spot having a wide range of allergy-conscious goodies, specifically the selection of gluten-free treats. For our 21+ Otters, they have a small selection of beverages up for grabs in the shop’s mini fridge. This could be the spot to study at pre-finals or to decompress and relax once the semester is over. Counterpoint Coffee is open daily from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. at 565 Broadway Ave, Seaside, CA.

Captain + Stoker

Number two on our list is all about connecting with the community! Known to partner with other local businesses and host events, Captain + Stoker may be less of a location to cram, but instead, the spot to take a study break! Located a short ten-minute drive from campus, this spot is a must-check-out for any students looking to get a little more involved with their off-campus community, all the while sipping on some fresh coffee. Especially since they toast and roast their beans fresh twice a week. While this may not be the best location to cozy up and concentrate, this is the best spot to decompress and get some fresh air after this hectic time of year. Be sure to check out their holiday menu, which is bound to change come the new year. They are open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and open at 7:30 a.m. on weekends.

Brewjee Coffee Co

Last but not least, the furthest spot is located at 16 E Gabilan St, Salinas, CA. Brewjee is fifteen minutes from campus and perfect for any Otters commuting in from Salinas. This shop may be the ideal stop to fuel up before a final presentation or to study before an exam. Known for their matcha and open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., this location is perfect for an anytime stop. Open longer hours than either of the above options, this may be your ticket to an easy A on a final this semester.
