Demonstrators hold ‘365 days & 75 years: students for a free Palestine’

On Oct. 7, nearly 30 people, many of them Cal State Monterey Bay students, participated in a student-coordinated event on campus, “365 days & 75 years: students for a free Palestine,” opposing what an anonymous participant* described as, “the occupation of Palestine and the ongoing genocide there.” The event was held on the one-year anniversary of  Hamas’ surprise cross-border attack on southern Israel, which has now escalated to multiple Middle Eastern countries being attacked by Israel. The afternoon rally, put on with help from The Abolitionist & Decolonial Learning Collective and Students for Quality Education, included sign-making and teach-ins from professors Sara Salazar Hughes and Jeremias Zunguze. A march across campus was also held where participants chanted, “Stop bombing Lebanon, stop bombing Gaza, stop bombing children.”
