Otters gather for cozy movie night

Otters were encouraged to bring their favorite snacks, dress in pajamas, and invite their friends to get together and watch “10 Things I Hate About You,” projector style as North Quad Resident Advisor (RA), Sophia Angelo hosted a Movie Night for students at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), on Aug. 28.

Angelo hopes to create a fun and engaging environment for students beginning their semester in Pinnacles to bond with each other over a light-hearted and enjoyable movie.

“Experience the thrill on the screen as we transport you to a world filled with cinematic marvels. Bring your roomies, friends, or someone special, and let the projector’s light brighten your evening,” said Angelo in encouragement.

What set Angelo’s Movie Night event apart from others hosted across CSUMB was the inclusion of a pre-event voting system, enabling the audience to determine the movie selection beforehand.

Angelo offered students a selection of movies to choose from, including “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Spiderman: No Way Home,” “Bambi,” and “Puss in Boots.”

“10 Things I Hate About You” won the vote and was shown at Angelo’s event. The turnout was a group of around 12 Otters gathered to watch the iconic movie in the Pinnacles Suites Lobby.

“We provided people who showed up with coloring paper so that they could keep busy during the movie! If we were to do another one in the future we plan on doing it on a non-school night,” said Angelo. “I think this will allow more people to come. Additionally, we can try to find a bigger space to do it in!”
