Otters sweep the floor with Cal Poly Humboldt

The California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) Otters volleyball team took on the California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt team on Friday, Sept. 23 in the Otter Sports Center, coming away with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-16 sweep. 

The Otters (6-6 overall and 2-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association)  started off strong by winning the first set. The second set started off with Mikayla Nolte (#16), who scored a point for the Otters with a strong spike. Kaylie Honberger (#10) served the ball next but Humboldt hit it out, which gave the Otters another point. 

After a lot of back and forth from both teams, Sam Chavez (#6) set the ball and with the help of her teammates kept the Otters in the lead, winning the second set 25-15. 

After the second set there was a small intermission where the CSUMB dance team dominated the floor, giving the Otters the motivation and energy to start the third set. 

With a tremendous start to the third set, the Otters took an early lead. Humboldt put up a good fight in the last set but the Otters came back on top and remained in the lead for the remainder of the game. Mollin Helfrich (#5) spiked the ball and scored the winning point, winning the game for the Otters 25-16. 

The CSUMB team worked hard and came out victorious at the end. Humboldt (1-7, 0-5) was competitive throughout. 

On Saturday the Otters fell to visiting Sonoma State 25-12, 25-22, 25-22.
