Second Food Pantry distribution of the semester goes smoothly

Many California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) students happily walked out of the Student Center with bags full of groceries after partaking in the Food Pantry last Wednesday.

The Associated Students (AS) at CSUMB put on its second Food Pantry event this semester, with distributions at noon and 4 p.m., where students received a selection of canned veggies, pasta, rice, beans, potatoes, leafy greens and more.

Unlike the first Food Pantry CSUMB had last month, there was plenty of food for each distribution time and food was evenly dispersed to students.

The line to attend the Food Pantry stretched all the way to the game room of the CSUMB Student Center and led up to the check-in booth in the farthest corner of the building. While in line, students were greeted by members of Green Waste to discuss which items in the Food Pantry were compostable or recyclable.

The Basic Needs Initiative also spoke with students in line, encouraging them to advocate for their needs that aren’t being met on campus, in order for the organization to provide solutions that will fulfill those needs. Music played as people waited for their turn to grab their food.

The next Food Pantry event will be in the Student Center on Nov. 6.
