Hammocks from Associated Students

Enjoy the great outdoors? Why not relax in a ready-made comfortable space just for you and/or your friends on a hammock right outside of Manzanita Hall in Main Campus! It’s free too! Over the summer, your Associated Students purchased an outdoor hammock structure that can accommodate up to eight hammocks.

With the additional help and support of our Student Recreational Services team, you can reserve your space and hammock anytime Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Just bring your Otter ID to the Student Recreation Front Desk, located in the Student Center, to rent a hammock (instructions will be provided). Follow the rules, since there may be more than just you on the hammocks. Rent and return the hammock — again it’s free! Your student fees in action! It’s that simple.

We currently have two open senate positions for the College of Business and Undeclared Majors, and other great student employment opportunities in programming, marketing, graphic design, Monte mascot program, and Otter Media’s student radio station and office assistants. To apply for student jobs with AS, go to Otter Jobs online. For senate positions, go to: — We Are AS!

Watch out for other upcoming campus-wide events we host. For instance, last week during Otter Days, AS brought to you Late Night at Target and Paint University. Every month, we host a free Food Pantry through our partnership with the Monterey County Food Pantry. This has been going on for two and a half years now, we were one of several campuses that launched this project among the 23 CSU campuses initially. Watch for one of our bigger annual events coming up, Midnight Madness, during Raft (homecoming weekend). Weekly, we provide free classes for students, including Zumba and Cardio-Kickboxing, at the BBC.

Through AS, we provide subsidized tickets through our AS Box Office, located in room 120, which will open next week on a limited basis until we are fully staffed. You can buy discounted tickets to movies, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Great America, Disneyland, and other special excursions to sporting events locally. Bring your Otter ID to purchase your discounted tickets.

We are AS and we are here to represent you on important causes, as well as advocate to keep tuition and fees lower for our students, address critical campus and student life issues with President Ochoa, Dr. Higgs and Dr. Williams along with other senior administrators, and network with lobbyists in Sacramento and DC through our advocacy with the California Student State Association.

Our Inter-club Council (ICC) and Sports Club Council (SCC) are funded by AS to support over 80 student organizations on campus and their programs throughout the year. They will be hosting their annual Otter Showcase next week on Wednesday, September 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m in the Ballroom University Center. Come out and join in the fun!
