Letter from the AS President (April 12)

Hey Otters! We are finally on the home stretch to summer!

Over the weekend our Associated Students attended the Cal State Student Association (CSSA) monthly meeting, where we and the 22 other CSU Associated Students leaders meet up and advocate on behalf of all the students we represent. I am in a committee that is advocating for a Student Bill of Rights. The bill would include things like: right to intellectual property, right to challenge faculty opinion, right to reproductive and personal hygiene products and right to timely mental health services—just to name a few.

Our election season has been great so far, and it is great to see the amount of student turnout at the speeches and debates. We will know who our new leaders will be and will announce the results at our Results Release Party in the Student Center on April 16 at 6 p.m.

We have six other Associated Students positions that were not run for in the campaigning season, that will be open for students to apply on Mon. Apr. 16 through the AS website. The positions are: Senator of Undeclared Students, Senator of Diversity & Inclusion, College of Business Senator, College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Senator, Vice President of External Affairs, and Executive Vice President. You can find more information on these position on our website.

If you are a student who still wants to be involved, but not as an officer, we have intern positions in the fields of programming (creating, planning and running events), graphic design, and marketing/communications. These positions can be found on Otter Jobs.

Also happening on Apr. 16, is the beginning of Earth Fest. There are environmentally friendly events happening Mon-Thurs. On Monday at noon, we will have Chalk By the Library. On Tuesday we have two events planned, the first one is from 2:00-5:00 p.m., we will have Campus Clean Up Day, and that begins in the East Lounge of the Student Center. The second event begins at 8:00-10:00 p.m., and there will be a showing of “Chasing Coral,” which is also in the East Lounge. On Wednesday from 2:00-5:00 p.m., in room 113 in the Student Center is DIY Soaps N’ Stuff. Lastly on Thursday, from 12:00-2:00 p.m., in the quad will be a Quad Celebration.

I hope to see you out at some of our events!

Best,
Lauren McClain
