As the weather cools and the leaves start to turn, you can feel anticipation for exciting fall festivities brewing throughout campus. For college students, Halloween (or more famously, Hallo-weekend) is the star of the show; a time most celebrated for late nights out, well-coordinated costumes and partying like there’s no tomorrow – or like there’s no assignments due.
While Hallo-weekend is exciting, the Lutrinae staff wanted to share what they have been doing to get into the fall spirit.

All pumpkin, all day
Whether you love it or hate it, Halloween season is where the pumpkin shines, and Staff Writer Jocelyn Corona is definitely on the side of team pumpkin.
“To get into the fall spirit, I enjoy anything within the pumpkin realm,” said Corona. “Lately I’ve been eating a lot of pumpkin bread, I think there’s just something so iconically fall about the taste and smell of pumpkin.”
Lutrinae Business Manager Lindsey Ruiz joins her in the pumpkin fan club, saying, “I’ve been doing more pumpkin flavored items all around.”

Autumnal baking
The cool weather of fall sets the ideal tone for cozy, warm activities like baking. Something about the process of preparing the ingredients, mixing them together and patiently awaiting your treats as they bake in the oven – savoring the sweet aromas as they fill your dorm space; everything about the activity screams autumn.
For Social Media Manager and photographer Maddie Honomichl, baking is just one of the many activities she has been partaking in to feel the fall spirit: “I’ve also definitely been doing a lot of baking and trying to find fall inspired recipes,” said Honomichl. Same goes for Assistant Editor Keira Silver, who has also been enjoying making fall-themed desserts.

Seasonal crafts
As with many holidays, crafting is an essential part of setting the tone for spooky season; it is much easier to feel immersed in the holiday spirit when your living space is sprinkled with seasonal decor!
Silver agrees with this sentiment, saying, “I have also decorated my house with pumpkins! I have carved and painted pumpkins with my friends,” in regards to how she’s been celebrating the season lately.
Corona has also carved pumpkins this week, another way she’s been celebrating pumpkin iconography this month.
“I work at a school, so I love having the kids do some fall crafts,” said Honomichl. “That way I can join and make some decors for my room!”

Setting the spooky vibe
Arguably, one of the best parts of fall is engaging in movies and music that reflect the seasonal tone. Although this media is available at any time of the year, there’s something about having the weather outside match your favorite, timeless holiday classic.
“I have been listening to classic Halloween songs and have been watching scary movies when I can! It always gets me in the mood for the season,” said Staff Writer Daisy Sanchez.
I love fall because it means my birthday is near and I get to spend time with my friends and family and all the people I love,” said Honomichl. “Fall to me means spooky season and I LOVE scary movies so that’s one thing gets me in the fall spirit!”

Taking in the autumn vibes
Apart from the many fall festivities one can partake in, the Lutrinae staff seemed to particularly enjoy simply taking a look around and enjoying the unique magic that is autumn.
Silver notes enjoying a walk around the neighborhood, appreciating the leaves as they turn from red to orange as a pass time that allows her to embrace the fall spirit.
“I’ve also just been embracing the dimness of fall, as the sun sets earlier it’s nice to be able to have cozy lighting for most of the evening,” said Ruiz.
Wearing festive clothing is another simple way members of our staff have been integrating excitement toward the fall season into their daily life. Production Manager Zoe Kapp enjoys going to cafes and thrift stores while wearing one of her several fall-themed cardigans.
“I also have lots of Halloween shirts and pjs that I love to wear when October rolls around,” said Honomichl.
