It’s that time of year where students are looking through their closets and carefully curating costumes for Halloween – or maybe even the Renaissance Fair. We thought it’d be helpful to create a list of all the on campus spots you can explore to help accessibly create an affordable costume this year.

Basic Needs & The Thrift Corner:
A well known spot to CSUMB students, Basic Needs mainly serves as the hub for students to obtain free healthy food options donated by supermarkets like Trader Joes. A hot spot for all one’s cooking needs, it may not be as well known for its large clothing collection: The Thrift Corner. Where you may just find the perfect pair of pants to finish your costume, or a shirt you wouldn’t mind altering, dying or embellishing to perfect your fair fit! All completely free. A great option to get inspired as well, one person’s discarded band-tee may be just the item that leads you to creating the best Halloween costume on campus. Located in building 12, you can find their hours and more info on their instagram.

The Makerspace:
Another incredibly popular spot on campus for the creative students to collaborate offers more than just your standard arts and crafts options. With sewing machines and an incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff, this could be the next best place to go after your trip to The Thrift Corner. The perfect place to alter those almost perfect pair of free pants that are maybe just a few too many inches too long. Or if you’re feeling a little crafty, try your hand at needle felting or button making to add some details and flare to your costume. Located on the third floor of the library and open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
