Students looking for help on how to navigate their voting ballot beyond the simple choice of Donald Trump vs. Kamala Harris have a chance to hear from some of the area’s best informed on the ballot on Friday, Oct. 18.
Associated Students is hosting a voting informational event in room 210 of the Otter Student Union from 10:30 a.m. to noon aiming to educate students on general voting information and explain specific propositions on the ballot. And they are bringing in experts to do it.
Representatives from the prize-winning nonprofit publication CalMatters and the League of Women Voters of Monterey County will be in attendance to discuss local affairs regarding voting initiatives. Students can have their questions answered by professionals who have covered and studied the issues on the ballot. The event aims to teach students how to interpret the regulations and initiatives presented on their ballot.
CalMatters will specifically cover their Voter Guide in detail. An analysis of each proposition in regards to how it affects the lives of students will be covered during Friday’s event, making it easier for students to clarify any confusion they may have about current legislation. The event also aims to provide students with the opportunity to meet with local voting activists to understand why an individual’s vote matters. The event will be located in the Otter Student Union in room 210. Students can register on MyRaft.
