Nick’s Flicks – the finale

Summer is coming, the movies are back, and Nick’s Flicks is on its way to the grave – fading into obscurity. But before I go, do you need summer plans? Do you enjoy watching movies? If so, here are some movies that are on my radar going into summer:

“Inside Out 2”

Coming to theaters on June 14, I have been anticipating this animated film for months. The original “Inside Out” did very well among audiences, and I am excited to see this new approach. With new and distinct emotions like anxiety, envy, embarrassment and ennui, Riley’s journey to growing up will become more complex and multifaceted.

“A Quiet Place: Day One”

I love horror movies. So, when I saw trailers for this prequel to “A Quiet Place,” I became very excited. The film will begin screening on June 28. More excitingly, this film includes some familiar faces from the horror industry, including Lupita Nyong’o from “Us” and Alex Wolff from “Hereditary.”

“Maxxxine”

Capping off the phenomenal horror trilogy that began with “X” in 2022, I cannot wait to see “Maxxxine.” In fact, I will be watching it on opening night come July 5. Mia Goth will likely kill her role as Maxine (no pun intended). As I see it, this set of films will go down as some of the most iconic horrors of our generation.

Going to the movie theater is usually always a fun time, but watching a movie at home can be just as fun (and relaxing). Late nights and cool evenings are perfect for laying in bed to watch old movies.

Here are some of my favorite films (which I’ve reviewed) to rewatch:

“Bottoms”

Looking back to one of my very first movie reviews, “Bottoms” will always have a special place in my heart. It is one of the funniest movies I’ve watched recently, and it only ran for an hour and a half which was refreshing considering the abundance of two to three hour films which overtook theaters during fall 2023.

“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé”

This year and last have been great examples of success for the female-titans in the music industry, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. Both produced exceptional films about their “Renaissance” or “Eras” tours, but Sasha Fierce took the cake for me. For those who enjoy music and a show, this is the perfect rewatch.

“Challengers”

I had a really fun time writing a review for this film. Originally I gave it four and a half stars out of five, but after watching it in theaters again, I’d change that to a five out of five. With the attention to detail, riveting love-triangle and tennis montages, there is so much to enjoy while watching “Challengers.”

These films are best enjoyed with a beverage of your choice, nerds clusters and popcorn.

Please remember to silence your phones, and keep watching movies!

Fin.
